Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure, February 2010 Barking Owl 2008 Shiraz Viognier ****1/2 From the Millbrook Winery in the Perth Hills of Western Australia, this young red is remarkable value. It has bright colour and a deliciously succulent nose, just like a summer pudding of fresh berries. Gentle shiraz spice adds dimension, as does the floral fragrance of 5 per cent viognier. The palate is lush and smooth with a balance of ripe fruit, acidity and fine tannins. It finishes long and juicy with ripeness and harmony. John Jens, Western Suburbs Weekly, February 2010 Cream of the Crop - Viognier Our Aussie viognier of the year? The Millbrook "Estate" (18.4 pts and RRP $35) and Limited Release versions (18.4 pts and $40.00) just edged out several of Yalumba's marvellous releases. Scoop, Summer 2009-10 Millbrook 2008 Regional Viognier SILVER It has a spice, apricot and ginger lift. The palate is rich, smooth, soft and not overbearing, with clean mouth-cleansing acidity on the finish. Gourmet Traveller Wine, Oct-Nov 2009 Top 100 New Releases Millbrook 2008 Limited Release Chardonnay **** 91 points This is big, gutsy and overt. There are nutty, stone-fruit and balsamic wild-ferment characters, while the flavour is concentrated on the palate. It has the richness and depth to carry the feral characters.
Andrew Jefford, Wines of the Place, August 2009 Millbrook 2008 Limited Release Viognier One of the two or three finest Viogniers I've tasted in Australia and an inspiring white wine which ought to rearrange the boundary posts for what is possible and desirable here. The scents, almost eerily, seem to convey texture: glycerol, cream, perfumed balm. The flavours then deliver a thick carpet of unctuous, multi-layered late summer fruits infused with floral essences.
